We at Guy Leonard & Co are pleased to announce a new estate agency and lettings service that specialises in accessible and adapted property. If you are looking for a home where easy access is important to you then our new “Mobility Friendly Homes” service may meet your requirements. If you are looking to sell or let such a property, then Guy Leonard & Co are definitely the agents who can help you.

What is a Mobility Friendly Home?

It can be Accessible with:

  • Off street or unrestricted on-street parking within 25 metres.
  • No steps between the point where a car could be parked and the entrance to the property, although there may be a slope.
  • Level access to at least one entrance to the property. The entrance may incorporate an access ramp or a small threshold.
  • Level access to all main living floor rooms.
  • A WC on the same level as the entrance to the property (or lift access to WC on another floor)

Or be Adapted meaning:

  • The property contains fixed equipment or adaptations designed to meet the needs of someone with a physical or other impairment.

Or it can be both Accessible and Adapted and some of these features include:

  • Level/ramped access to entrance
  • Level/ramped access to garden
  • Widened doorways
  • Stairlift
  • Through ceiling lift
  • Adapted bathroom and/or kitchen
  • Raised power points
  • On site assistance

There are an estimated 8.7 million people in this country who consider themselves disabled. That is a huge number of people with homes to sell and very few of those come to the open market mainly due to the fact that people do not know how or where to sell or let them. Guy Leonard & Co. are now part of a network developing this new specialist agency service. When selling adapted homes most agencies totally ignore the presence of ramps, handrails, lifts or special equipment when producing their sales details. On some occasions they will not even take on a property until such features are removed. What a waste!
