Billingshurst, West Sussex

Billingshurst is a small town located on the A29 road (the Roman Stane Street) and lies eight miles south west of Horsham and five miles north east of Pulborough. During the medieval period the village was a coaching stop on the main road from Bognor to Horsham. Billingshurst High Street, with its tea shops and the medieval church of St Mary’s, is half a mile from Billingshurst main line station with services to Gatwick Airport and London Victoria and south to Bognor Regis (some services continue to Portsmouth Harbour). There are good connections to the main road network via the A29 and A24 north Horsham by-pass to the M23 and M25 and rail links with the South Coast and London Victoria and London Bridge. The larger town of Horsham near-by offers an extensive range of shopping and other amenities including leisure/swimming complex and Horsham Arts Centre.

Billingshurst has a wide range of local shops, library, doctors surgery and schools including infant, junior and The Weald Community school, which is a secondary school with a sixth form. There are four churches of various denominations. The Weald School contains a leisure centre including fitness suite, which is open to the public in the evening. A new sports area contains football pitches, a cricket pitch and pavilion, a fishing lake and an exercise path. Other facilities include a tennis club and a lawn bowling club. There are several local pubs in Billingshurst together with restaurants including Indian and Chinese.
